McArdle Roadway To Be Repaired

Bridge Span on Lower McArdle Roadway
The lower section of McArdle Roadway which leads to Pittsburgh's Southside from the mouth of the Liberty Tunnels will be closed for a year while much-needed repairs are made.  The bridge span, called Viaduct No. 1, will be replaced at a cost of $7 million.  The bridge was built in 1933, spans 540 ft and stretches over Norfolk Southern railway tracks which run parallel to the base of the slopes on the Southside.
