Homeowners have until March 1 to apply for a reduction in their property taxes through the state gaming revenue fund, and the office of the auditor general is prepared to help with applications.  Auditor General Jack Wagner released a report a year ago finding that hundreds of thousands of eligible homeowners were missing out on the tax relief because they weren't aware they were eligible.

The reduction is known as a homestead exemption and applies to homeowners' permanent residences. Last year, more than 2.6 million homeowners received an average property tax reduction of about $200.
