Washington County Energy Plant Going With Natural Gas

Beech Hollow Energy Project Site

Robinson Power Company has revised the plans for their proposed Beech Hollow Energy Project in Washington County.  They will be burning natural gas to generate electricity as part of the revised plan for a $450 million power plant at the border of Washington and Allegheny counties.   The developers of the Beech Hollow Energy Project in Robinson Towship told township planners Monday night they want to fuel the plant with natural gas in addition to the waste coal that already has been approved.  It would be about a 50/50 split with gas coming from Marcellus Shale.  The 300-gross-megawatt plant would use 21 million to 23 million cubic feet of natural gas each day.

Robinson Native To Open New Restaurant At The Pointe

Latitude 30 in Jacksonville, FL

Robinson Township native Brent Brown is glad to be back, doing business in Pittsburgh.  Brown plans to open a restaurant, bar and entertainment center in the former Roomful Express building in The Pointe at North Fayette.  A Montour High School graduate, he outlined plans for Latitude 40, a two-story, 60,000-square-foot restaurant and bar with an arcade, a 300-seat theater, 24 luxury bowling lanes and a movie screening room. The venue will accommodate parties and special events.

He said the company planned to lease and remodel the former furniture store and open next spring.
Mr. Brown chose the 200 Quinn Drive location because he grew up in the area and because the spot is near Pittsburgh International Airport and many businesses.  In January, Mr. Brown and his partners, including his brother, opened Latitude 30 in Jacksonville, Fla., where he now lives.

Hours for Latitude 40 tentatively will be 11 a.m. to midnight Sunday to Wednesday and 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Thursday to Saturday, with live comedy on weekends.  No one under 16 years old will be allowed in the venue without a parent or guardian, and no one under 21 years old will be allowed to stay after 10 p.m. Security guards will ensure the entrance policy is enforced.

Area Projects Funded By Penn-DOT

Main Street in Saxonburg

Penn-DOT announced $4.1 million in grants to "smart transportation" projects in the region that promote biking and walking and systems:

Saxonburg
Getting more than $1.4 million toward its historic Main Street revitalization. The grant will provide new curbing, sidewalks, lighting, landscaping and improvements to fire hydrants, sewers and utility lines along Main Street from Pittsburgh and State streets to Rebecca Street.

Richland
Will get $1.3 million to make a commercial area on Route 8 more pedestrian-friendly and improve traffic flow.
Left-turn lanes and new traffic signals on Route 8 at Ewalt Road will be added as will pedestrian access from the Orchard Park neighborhood to the Route 8 commercial district.

Robinson; North Fayette

The Airport Corridor Transportation Association will get $700,000 to make pedestrian, bicycle and transit improvements in the shopping complexes in Robinson and North Fayette.  The grant will pay for sidewalks along Park Manor Boulevard, a striped bike lane from the Montour Trail to a bus stop near IKEA and a pedestrian crossing and "super" shelter at the bus stop.

Washington County
Will get $443,500 for completing nine miles of the Panhandle Trail.  The Panhandle Trail stretches from Carnegie to near Weirton, W.Va., crossing through the Washington County towns of Midway and Burgettstown.

Pittsburgh
Pittsburgh will get $280,000 to advance its plan for a multimodal transportation corridor in the Strip District and Lawrenceville.
